A new book for a new month

Hi guys!!

So welcoming February!!! Was that not the longest January in history?! It felt like an entire year!! I’m not a fan of January – while others are great at getting their affairs in order and dieting and exercising and being super positive in over here like no thank you just give me tea, or wine and a good book with a cozy blanket.

Do you agree??

So I’ve been on amazon and I’ve ordered two books – one by my favorite Irish writer Niamh Boyce and another by Jodi Picoult.

Niamh Boyce is a stunning writer I couldn’t put down her book called “The Herbalist” which is a page turner I would recommend you get it before reading her next one which has just been released – “inside the wolf” and it is a collection of poems. I haven’t been able to get it on kindle yet so I treated myself to the paperback!!

I’m still torn as to whether I like my iPad for reading through the kindle app or whether I love the old style paperback. It is very handy to have the books you love on your devices where ever you go and it is very handy but then picking up a physical book.

But then the scent of a book the feel of a book and the picture of you with a book giving off the warning of do not disturb thank you very much!!

What have you picked up for February?? Have you any recommendations? Have a wonderful month šŸ˜„

A Sunday well spent

There’s a saying that goes ” A Sunday well spent brings a week of content” well if that’s the case I will be very content from Monday to Friday as I spent the majority of the morning having food coffee and breakfast followed by a hot shower followed by some fine reading.

As I said I have given up on the Milkman book it just is not for me and I picked up another book I had been reading before it. It is the hacker series and I finished the first book in the series within an hour. The author Meredith Wild is exceptional at describing scenes and human emotion with a magnificent eye to detail.

I have downloaded the second book in the series and am loving it so far!! I’m so happy my cousin introduced me to her writing. I will definitely read all of the books and some of her other offerings.

How are you spending your Sunday? I wish I was sipping wine at a local pub in a corner reading beside a nice fire but I’m not sure I could take the distraction either!! Wine and I have a loving relationship in that I must give it my full attention šŸ˜‚

I hope your week brings comfort and content and some wonderful books.

Bad Books. Difficult reads

I’m 36 pages in to Milkman by Anna Burns and I’m sorry I have to put it down. I just cannot read it. It’s not that it’s painful or harrowing it’s just the language the flow and the non-naming of the characters just gets to me.

It’s a slow book; slow to get to the point and I’m not picking up where it’s going or what she is really saying.

Also it’s not sparking interest in me for the main character; she herself is sort of “milky” and watery in my opinion.

I just don’t get it at all and every time I picked this book up I wanted to like it but I loathed it!! It put me in a bad mood she goes on too much and repeats herself too much. Just give the characters names and be done with it!!

Back to the drawing board for me with my next read!!

Weekend Vibes

48 hours to unwind to de-stress and deflate from the mundane work tasks, office banter and general stresses of the Monday to Friday!!

In the morning I am going to get up early get a good breakfast and pour myself some good coffee. I’m going to put on my trainers and take a good walk in the countryside and get some good fresh air.

It’s amazing what you see on a nice walk, between various birds, different berries on the bushes and hopefully a vast blue sky. Living in Ireland the sky can be grey and the clouds can bring the rain so hopefully it’ll be nice tomorrow.

I’m finding it a little difficult with the book I’m reading at the moment “Milkman” it’s got no character names yet? I kind of find it a bit bizarre and hard to follow!!

But I am sure I will get into it soon. It seems like a good read and I’m anticipating what might happen next….are you reading it? What are your thoughts so far??

Have a lovely Friday evening,

This months book

Hi!!

So I popped into Easons bookshop in Galway last weekend. I was actually looking for a different book but this jumped out at me on the shelf!!

I wouldn’t say I’m biased but I’m a sucker for an Irish author – Anna was born in Belfast Northern Ireland and so far I’m about a chapter in and I am intrigued!!

I read a book similar to this for my leaving certificate years ago called across the barricades and I loved it so this should be good.

I love the main character already as she is quite witty and fiery.

Have you picked this up yet?? We could read together! Leave your comments below and don’t forget to visit me on instagram at “wherethewordstakeme”

Yours,

L x
